Help us preserve our past + build our future

The museum draws visitors and school children from surrounding areas to downtown Oxford.  The Harris Hall Expansion Campaign has set a goal of raising $250,000 for capital improvements to the Hall.  The expansion of Harris Hall will give us more exhibit space, relocate the workshop, create better office space, and expand and diversify the museum programs for our community.

While museums in nearby cities offer art and culture, little of the history of small towns and rural areas  that make up so much of North Carolina is represented.  We hope you will help us to fill the need and support history, science and the arts locally.

Future Train Exhibit...Curt Tillotson's Train Collection

An architect and an exhibit designer were approved by the Board of Directors for the permanent exhibit of Mr. Tillotson's Train Collection.  The current storage rooms at the rear of Harris Hall will become a train exhibit room, research room, workshop, and storage facility according to the drawings now underway.

This will be an excellent attraction for children and adults.  The "research" or "library" will house the thousands of photographs taken by Tillotson as well as his collection of reference materials.  Visitors that are interested in researching and learning more about trains will find this an outstanding reference room.  Click on the pictures below to see a more detailed view.

Proposed Floor Plan

The "double doors" (on the parking lot side) will at last provide adequate space for incoming and outgoing exhibits.  This has been a problem with our traveling exhibits due to the current door sizes.
